Set Up GA4 Before July 2023

Why? Because Universal Google Analytics is going away for good. But don't worry if you have not setup GA4 yet. Google says they will set a new version for accounts that have not done so. These Google setups will be for basic tracking information and will not copy any setting from your old Universal Analytics account. Consider hiring a professional to help with this process if you don't understand the analytics setup.

What is GA4?

Google Analytics GA4 is the latest version of Google's popular web analytics platform. It was released in 2020 as a replacement for the previous version, Universal Analytics. GA4 offers several new features and improvements over its predecessor, including enhanced data privacy controls, more granular event tracking, and a focus on machine learning-powered insights. Some of the critical features of GA4 include the following:

  • App + Web property: GA4 is a single analytics property that can track data from websites and mobile apps.

  • Automatic event tracking: GA4 automatically tracks user interactions with your website or app, such as clicks and form submissions, without requiring a manual tracking code.

  • Improved measurement: GA4 provides a more accurate measure of user behavior and new metrics and dimensions to give you a complete view of your website or app's performance.

  • Machine learning insights: GA4 uses machine learning algorithms to provide actionable insights and recommendations based on your data.

GA4 is designed to provide a more streamlined and user-friendly experience for marketers and web analysts while also improving the accuracy and privacy of data collection.

How to get started with GA4

If you are new to Google Analytics GA4, here are some steps you can follow to get started:

  1. Create a GA4 property: You can create a new GA4 property in your Google Analytics account. If you already have a Google Analytics account, you can add a new GA4 property by selecting the Admin section and "Create Property."

  2. Install the tracking code: You must install the GA4 tracking code on your website or mobile app. The code is available in the GA4 property setup, and instructions are provided for installing it on your platform.

  3. Set up events: GA4 automatically tracks some everyday events, but you can also set up custom events to track specific actions that are important to your business.

  4. Connect data sources: GA4 allows you to connect data from other Google products, such as Google Ad Manager, to get a complete view of your audience and their behavior.

  5. Explore the GA4 reports: Once you have set up GA4 and started collecting data, you can explore the reports to see how your website or app performs. The GA4 reports provide insights into user behavior, acquisition, and conversions.

  6. Use machine learning insights: GA4 uses machine learning algorithms to provide actionable insights and recommendations based on your data. You can access these insights in the GA4 reports helping you improve your website or app's performance.

These steps will get you started using Google Analytics GA4, and you can learn more as you explore the platform and its features.
